Better Than Takeout Teriyaki
Skip the takeout and make this easy teriyaki chicken at home in just 25 minutes. The homemade teriyaki sauce is miles ahead of bottled versions – it’s the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and savory with a glossy, sticky finish that clings to every piece of juicy chicken.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Salt and pepper
- Steamed rice for serving
- Steamed broccoli florets for serving
- Sesame seeds and sliced scallions for garnish
Teriyaki Sauce:
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup mirin
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
Step 1:
Season chicken with salt and pepper. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken 5-6 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Remove.
Step 2:
In the same pan, add soy sauce, mirin, honey, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer. Add cornstarch slurry, stir until thickened (about 2 minutes).
Step 3:
Return chicken to pan, toss in sauce. Serve over steamed rice with broccoli. Garnish with sesame seeds and scallions.
